Black History Month Day 2
So amidst the search for things to support during this wonderful black history month I was bitten by the negativity bug. So being my readers you get to share this wonderful emotion of what the &%*$!
This is a P.G. Thirteen blog. So I was looking and deciding on who would be the topic of day two when I was hit with this article. Vanity Fair Lacks Diversity
Now between you and me this is not a shocker. I mean anybody who watches T.V. can tell you that there is usually one Black or African American depending on how you are feeling today, one latino, or if they are going out on a limb one asian and they always…… ALWAYS die first. Am I right or am I right? So to hear that the new “Hollywood” according to Vanity fair is lacking diversity is not really a shock to anyone of color. I mean come on people we just gave the first Academy Award to an African American Woman for best actress eight years ago and our second Best Actor academy award nine years ago.
That means that for thirty seven years in between Sidney Poitier’s win in 1964 and Denzel Washington’s win in 2001 Actors of darker complection sucked. Thank God that drought was over!
Oh and for actors of a lighter/darker complection there was an even longer drought between Rita Moreno in 1960 for West Side Story and Benecio Del Toro in 2003 for traffic.
And as far as Asian Actors go well the only one that I could find (Wikipedia. First Asian Actor to win Academy Award-google it!) that has one an Academy Award for acting in a leading role is Yul Brynner for the King and I. ANNNND SLAP AND DOUBLE SLAP! Now I am not Asian ,but that seems like a bit of a stretch. Love ya Yul. But I don’t know if I would classify you as Asian, but that is just me.
Which Brings us to being positive.
