  2. WTH!! Well that was depressing to watch. Let me see if I can keep this short. My head is spinning with so MANY comments that it’s unreal!! Plain and simple, ANY man, woman or child, who defines themself by their physical appearance and/or by the standards of society, whether it be American,Chinese, Japanese, Indonesian, Arabian, or any other culture they wish to associate themselves with, has already lost the battle of EVER being SANE!! People will ALWAYS find something wrong with you, something they want to change, someway they want you to conform or make you fit into what THEY think is beautiful, right or acceptable!! If you choose to follow what THEY, then I hate to inform you, but you will NEVER be good enough!! It’s not about the hair, it’s not about the nails, it’s not about the booty or the boobs!! Sisters it’s about you being you and being OKAY with being you!! Whatever that may mean!! Gap toothed, gold toothed, straight toothed, no toothed( i know bad terminology, but hey it’s funny.. admit it!!! Straight hair, kinky hair, afro, dreads, blowed hair, bought hair. colored hair, no hair…Just be YOU!!! Think about it..at the end the day, single, dating, married or divorced…YOU are all you really have!! So, you sit around and wait for someone to tell you you’re beautiful, you’re what they were looking for, you’re perfect, you’re ACCEPTABLE.. if you want to, but I choose to JUST BE ME.. and guess what.. I am truly HAPPY with what I see!! For those that may be saying, ‘ this one must be single’..i say… ‘ Eh, wrong!!! try again’…to those that may be saying.. this one must not be an “Educated Woman”…’ Eh, wrong again.. I have a Masters degree’!! And for anybody else that has any other negative comeback to this comment.. i say ‘ Wow!! I must be doing something right.. i got your attention!!’..lol. And guess what..i was JUST BEING ME!!! :)

India Arie said it best when she sang in her truly tranquil voice..
‘ I am not my hair, I am not this skin, I am not your expectations, no, no, I am not my hair, I am not this skin,I am a soul that lives within’( Song Title: I AM NOT MY HAIR)

  4. TBA You are dead on. I think the thing that we all must do one thing as we wake up to this need to learn to love ourselves again. I think that we as black people tend to say. “I figured it out. You need to snap out of it and figure it out.” I don’t think that that is helpful nor will it get us to where we need to be. I think that we should lean towards listening and understanding. Because condemning always leads to defensiveness and in this case being defensive leads to people fighting for the very thing that is holding them back. Why? Because as black people it is very important to be right! You know it’s true. :-) In this case we need to be helpful. We need to become listeners and understanders and allow people to heal at their own pace. Peace!
